Dale Appeal Donnelly Red Card
Not surprising news really given how it played out, but Rochdale have confirmed that they are going to appeal the straight red card that George Donnelly received in the match against Accrington Stanley.
The striker was of course dismissed on the stroke of halftime for a challenge where he appeared to get the ball, but if anything a yellow card would have been a more acceptable way of dealing with it, instead of resorting to a straight red, and I guess the club are pretty confident that their appeal will be successful.
Having seen replays now I'd be surprised if it wasn't successful myself.
Hopefully we'll know in a few days, as these things don't usually take long as the referee would have already put his report in and explained his thoughts at the time, as well as since presumably having watched replays of the event.
At the very least thankfully the red card didn't cost us in the game as we went on to win two one, as red card appeals daftly don't consider the result even when the appeal panel rules that a club was seriously disadvantaged by a mistake from the referee.
