Beech Talks Newport
Assistant manager Chris Beech has said he was delighted to see Rochdale extend their unbeaten run at home to six games following the three nil victory over Newport.
Goals from Vincenti, Cummins and Hery gave us all three points at the weekend, and Beech told the Official Site that although we played the possession football we wanted to on the day, he is slightly disappointed that we didn't add to our margin on the day as he thought we were good value for more goals in the match.
However, he also insisted that performances like this don't happen by accident, it's the culmination of a lot of work that the management staff and the players have been putting in on the training pitch and after the three nil reverse by Portsmouth in our last league game, putting in an effort like that on home soil was the perfect response by the players.
'We know that when we get it right you get accolades like we have done today. It doesn't happen by accident - this started in pre season and we set out the way we want to play football.'
We haven't always seen it on the pitch, certainly not as successfully as the Newport match, but it has been the style Keith Hill has wanted us to implement and we've seen plenty of signs of it coming together before.
Explaining further he says the idea is to have players confident and talented enough to express themselves on the pitch, stamp their mark on games and control the opposition so we achieve what we want and ideally we want to do that by playing pass and move football and entertaining the fans as we go.
With the Port Vale win built on by the Newport victory, hopefully this is the start of another good unbeaten run - home and away - and we'll continue to move forward and the players will continue to gain confidence and give Hill exactly what he wants on the pitch more regularly.
That way we'll all win.
