Manager Keith Hill has called on the fans to stick with the team after being unhappy with some of the comments directed at him and the players as Rochdale trailed during the midweek match.
Rochdale went on to win the encounter three two, but had trailed for most of the game after Northampton went ahead after only two minutes, and although Ian Henderson found an equaliser in the first half, Rochdale promptly went behind again and went into the half time break two one down.
We finally found the leveller and took the lead in the final few minutes of the match.
During the time we were behind though, Hill told the BBC that he wasn't best pleased with some of the comments he heard coming from a small section of the fans.
'I'm just calling for a bit of respect, a bit of patience and a bit of understanding of the development stage that we're still in. I'm not upset, but I'm just calling for support.'
Hill goes on to say that he can't foster an 'everybodies in it together' attitude within the club if some fans are berating him for not substituting 'rubbish' players.
'They're not rubbish, they're exceptional people who are standing up to the challenges and the demands that I put in front of them. I never call my players rubbish and I wouldn't dare show them that lack of respect.'
He does have a point, following that victory Rochdale went clear at the top of the table by two points, and even though it's still early in the season, that's quite an achievement at this stage given the changes he's implemented.
More ridiculous still is the fact that we have won all but one game since the start of September and only lost three all campaign so far.
By no means are the players the finished product but they are performing and there will be games that don't go our way. But there's no need to go over the top in frustration nor raise expectation levels through the roof as that will only cause fans to be disappointed.
Take it as it comes, and see how we develop over the coming months. Until we get passed the new year and into the business end of the season, way too much can still happen to let emotions rule the roost at this stage.
