'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Hill Thanks Cavanagh As He Exits Rochdale

Manager Keith Hill has publicly thanked Peter Cavanagh for all his hard work in his time at the club, and for skippering us to promotion this season.

News was announced that Hill was letting him go this summer when his contract expired, and speaking to the Official Site the manager said it was a very hard decision to make given his standing at the club.

'It has been a very difficult decision with Peter, I've got a lot of respect for Peter, he has managed the changing rooms superbly, he has been a great leader and a great captain. It's a decision that I didn't take lightly and a decision that has only been recently made, but it's the way I have chosen to go.'

Hill goes on to say that he has no doubts whatsoever that Cavanagh won't find a new club swiftly and he'll do all he can to help him achieve that despite not offering him a new deal.

'I've got a lot of deep admiration for him and I believe that he's got the natural ingredients to be a coach/manager once his playing career ends. I did thank him and I have to thank him again for the work he has done on my behalf this season and on behalf of the supporters and the football club in gaining promotion.'

33 year old Cavanagh joined us back in the summer of 2012 and has gone on to make 56 appearances for the club, scoring twice in the league. 21 of those appearances came this season, as did one of his goals in the victory over Hartlepool back in January.
