Hill - Meeting Stoke Shows We Deserve Praise

Hill - Meeting Stoke Shows We Deserve Praise

Manager Keith Hill has done another interview ahead of tomorrow evening's FA Cup fourth round tie against Premiership side Stoke City.

In this interview, he points out that Rochdale deserve a lot of credit for the turn around in fortunes over the past few seasons, gaining promotion last year, competing well in League One this season as we continue adjusting and also with reference to two successive fourth round ties in the FA Cup in the past two years.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of our entertaining Mark Hughes' boys tomorrow, the gaffer said that Rochdale had been achieving 'real success' and long may it continue, and he hopes the players get the credit they deserve in the press this week.

'The players deserve to be in the limelight. What we have done over the last 18 months has been remarkable and the way that we deal with finances doesn't get an awful lot of publicity. The respect that we have for football finances and the way we've managed our success is phenomenal. It shouldn't overlooked but is.'

Hill goes on to say that the 'success we're achieving is real' mainly because we don't 'owe' anybody any money and in football that is a special situation to be in.

'We're developing our own players and we got promoted last year having reduced the budget from the previous season, so it's absolutely superb. Last season we got promoted a special way and this season we're challenging in league one the same way, which is within our financial remit.'

Hill goes on to say that we boost our finances by selling players when they are ready to make the step up to a level we aren't yet competing at, and by doing well in the cup competitions - simply put we don't borrow money, we do our best to make additional revenue and when that isn't available we stay within budget full stop.

'We don't just break even, we actually make money and sustain success. These are special times when you look at the team that we've got, the team that we've built and the longevity that's in that team for the next two or three years. It could be special times and that's what we're planning for.'
