'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RIP Ernie Cooksey

Most Dale fans will by now have heard of the sad news regarding former Dale midfielder Ernie Cooksey. Ernie passed away in the early hours of this morning with his family at his side. He was not in pain at the time of his death.

Ernie leaves behind him many friends who he has touched over the years with his warmness and happy-go-lucky persona.

To pass away at just 28 seems such a waste. His attitude and commitment to everything he did made him a hero at every club he played for. There's a lot of footballers who could take a leaf out of Ernie's book with regards their behaviour on and off the pitch.

It really just doesn't seem fair for Ernie to be taken from his loving friends and family at such an age. The saddest thing of all is his partner, Louise, is heavily pregnant and he will never get to see his child. I have no doubts, though, that the newborn will be made well aware of what a well-respected man their Daddy was.

Rest In Peace Ernie - You will live on forever in our hearts.

Very very sad news. For a professional sportsman to die so young. My thoughts go out to all his family and friends.
