Hyde 3-3 Dale

Hyde 3-3 Dale
Well, as far as Pre-season friendlies go this was a good 'un. A couple of hundred Dale fans made the trip to Hyde last night and were treated to an entertaining game.

Dale lined up as follows:

Russell, Ramsden, Evans, Stanton, McArdle, Gavin Rothery, Rundle, Jones, Lambert, Daggers, Shaw.

You may have noticed a new name in there which belonged to Gavin Rothery. At the time I didn't realise it but apparently the lad's from Leeds and is, according to the messageboards, a Football Manager hero or sumert...

Anyway, we did a bit of research on the lad and it turns out he was very highly rated a few years ago. Seems he's played for England U-19's and was tipped to go onto bigger and better things. Sadly injuries have hampered his progression so far and he never actually made a first team start for Leeds. Although he did score this rather good goal against the 'Scum' reserve team... clicky

Anyway on with the game and Dale started off quite brightly and Daggers was his usual lively self opening the scoring with a neat finish.

Dale were on top and should probably have scored a few more with Shaw in particular struggling to put the ball in the net. McArdle had a few of his trademark headers but it wasn't to be.

Of course Hyde then went an equalised with an easy tap in with Rambo adamant it was offside.

It was Rothery who put us back in front in he first half and he made no mistake after Shaw had another shot blocked by the Keeper.

On to the second half and HillCroft rung the changes going with:

Russell, Wiseman, TK, Thorpe, D'Laryea, Higgy, Michael Barnes, Keltie, Toner, Buckley and ALF.

We had another trialist in the shape of Michael Barnes. Barnes was released by Man Utd in August and has spent time with Chesterfield and Shrewsbury on loan although he made just 5 appearences in his two loan spells.

It wasn't long before Hyde equalised with a header which gave Russell no chance. It was then down to our old mate Matty Tipton to put Hyde into the lead for the first time with a very decent lobbed finish over Russell.

In between the Hyde equaliser and their third goal Dale had again looked dangerous. ALF, Buckley and Ketie all missed chances for Dale before Tipton struck.

ALF got a deserved equaliser for Dale and he looked lively throughout. It was a decent work out for Dale and it is sure to give HillCroft plenty to think about.
